Troubleshooting SMB connections to remote folders

Error on KDS: ‘Cannot access remote folder smb://'

 

Possible reason 1: Routing POS Device (the Host) is turned Off or Offline

· Solution: make sure the Routing POS is available, BackOffice setup is correct, and the Internet is OK

Possible reason 2: incoming/jobs folder 'Share Permission' is not enabled on Routing POS (or the permission was lost after the POS Device re-image)

Solution: On Routing POS Device, go to the share folder where job order files are dropped

  • Right click on the ‘jobs’ share folder > Properties > Sharing > Advanced Sharing: Share this folder = YES (Apply)
  • Make sure it was shared to 'Everyone' user with Full Control (Sharing > Advanced Sharing > click on Permissions: Group or user name = Everyone)

Possible Reason 3: The Remote Folder is not connected or may have lost its connection. To resolve this, use the Find button to re-establish the connection. If necessary, revisit the setup steps to ensure everything is configured correctly.

Possible Reason 4: KDS Station license is being deactivated (KDS devices are deactivated after inactivity period)

Possible reason 5: SMB 1.0 Windows feature is not enabled on Routing POS 

Solution: On Routing POS, go to Control Panel > Programs and Features > Turn Windows feature on or off:

  • check the SMB 1.0 boxes. Reboot Routing POS.
  • Enable SMB 1.0 Windows feature
